Ahh.. Spring...  how I love thee... it brings out new technologies all launched during SXSW.

Here's another quick blurb on a new social media management tool, Bliss Control (http://www.blisscontrol.com). Admitted, I haven't tried it, but I do like the UI. It looks very simple to use. A little TOO simple if you know what I mean. Like it lack certain features. However, if you want a quick and dirty way to change settings on your social media, this is the way to go.

Admittedly, I have heard of them and tried them before, but I was not impressed enough to blog about it. They have done quite a few updates and it looks pretty good. I have to remind you that this is not focused on managing social networks but more on managing your online brand. If you can't understand the difference, maybe you should try it out and see!

There are two changes that Google+ will be made. In summary -

1. Google+ allows nicknames. This has been a long time coming. Previously, Google+ only allows birth names which caused much confusion, esp to celebrities who used aliases. Now, anyone is able to use a nickname and shows up in your Google+ profile. Google will provide “support for alternate names—be they nicknames, birth names, or names in another script—alongside your common name. This name will show up on your Google+ profile and in the hovercards which appear over your name.”

2. Google+ Accounts will be automatically generated. As of next week, anyone signing up for Gmail will have Google+ accounts be automatically generated as well.

I came across another application that could potentially assist you to manage your social networks. It looks pretty interesting on the surface since it manages something like  40+ different networks. Personally, I haven't tried it so you have a chance to try their private beta and figure out if it works for you. If you do, I would love to know what you think.

One of the lesser known free Google applications that many businesses overlook is Google Places. However, it is by no means the least important. This discussion came up when one of our smaller clients, a local 4-restaurant chain in Chicago, asked why their restaurants aren’t showing up during a search for “Chinese/Asian/Sushi restaurants”. On investigation, we found that they hadn’t signed up for Google Places and owned their restuarant listings. Once we assisted them with registering their restaurants and creating a local search marketing strategy, their listing showed up nicely during local searches with map placeholders.

But let’s go back to basics first on what Google Places does for you.
