One of the lesser known free Google applications that many businesses overlook is Google Places. However, it is by no means the least important. This discussion came up when one of our smaller clients, a local 4-restaurant chain in Chicago, asked why their restaurants aren’t showing up during a search for “Chinese/Asian/Sushi restaurants”. On investigation, we found that they hadn’t signed up for Google Places and owned their restuarant listings. Once we assisted them with registering their restaurants and creating a local search marketing strategy, their listing showed up nicely during local searches with map placeholders.
