AI Is Killing Search and E-Commerce
Let’s explore the field of search technology and how it is affecting e-commerce. Hold on tight as we explore how AI assistants such as Siri and Perplexity are changing how people obtain information and why your company must change to stay ahead of the curve. We’ll discuss the rise of AI-powered tools, the fall of conventional search techniques, and provide practical advice for improving your e-commerce website.
This is what you will learn today:
- how to optimize for search engines and the shift from traditional search to AI assistants.
- how content publishing is affected by Google’s content updates and what that means for your company.
- How to create and apply AI tools for more intelligent and effective searches.
- The best ways to optimize your e-commerce website for AI-powered search engines.
Do you recall my prediction that traditional search would soon be obsolete? That’s even more true now, and to be honest, I had assumed it would happen sooner. Why? Because it’s much simpler to ask an AI assistant for something than to look for it on your own. Google released its useful AI content update last year in response to this change. They realized they needed to change when they noticed that their traffic was shifting to ChatGPT and similar tools.
People aren’t interested in clicking through links, sifting through long articles with pop-ups and advertisements, or slogging through endless Google results. They’re still catching up, but Google’s updates were a step in the right direction. They want to provide information quickly.
The Evolution of Search
To expedite the delivery of information, Google has implemented features like AI overviews, rich snippets, and zero-click results. However, they are still falling behind in spite of these advancements. The CEO of Perplexity was interviewed on Lex Friedman’s podcast just this week. Answer engine optimization, which he talked about, is interesting but not quite the solution that most people expect.
Perplexity.ai is being talked about as a possible disruptor that will revolutionize search. Because of the AI tools that are currently available, I modeled a similar template over the weekend which would allow better integration into AI search results.
Preparing for E-Commerce
Long articles are no longer recommended. Quick, crucial information like shipping details, costs, and site performance is what these AI assistants are looking for. For these particular needs, my template performs better than Google, and e-commerce websites should concentrate on providing succinct, powerful responses and guaranteeing quick load times to keep users interested.
Gathering reviews is essential because consumers, including business-to-business clients, look for them. To see if your website shows up in relevant searches, use tools such as Perplexity. We put a lot of effort into making sure our clients’ websites function properly, and if they don’t, we investigate the cause. In order to assist non-clients in increasing their sales, we are also selling comprehensive “Scrum reports.”
Using these templates is transformative in addition to being valuable. Seeing this as the way of the future, I have even advised my clients. These templates and strategies are extremely powerful, but are still providing relevant and important information to customers.
